Calculus I
Check the syllabus for exam dates, final exam times, rules and regs, etc.:
Various supplementary assignments, problems, solutions, hints, and other stuff will sporadically appear below.
- Here's the "circle limit" problem described on Moodle, as an image and as in JavaSketchpad.
- The folks at Wolfram Research have created an online training video, "Hands-on Start to Mathematica", that introduces key features of Mathematica for education. They claim it will get you using Mathematica 7 ("and more
importantly, really understanding it") within 20 minutes. Give it a whirl and tell me what you think. You can post your reactions in our "Class Lounge" Moodle forum.
- Tests from 2008: T1 (and T1 with answers), T2 (and T2 with answers), T3 (and T3 with answers), Final Exam. NOTE: There is no implied expectation that your exams will look like these; they are for practice (when the time comes) and to give you a sense of what to expect. I believe a (very) few typos are lurking, but I forget where.
- Some review items.
- Your textbook is associated with a website that has some review stuff. You could start looking here.
- We use interval notation a lot, so you might enjoy some practice simplifying intersections and unions of intervals in the form of an online quiz.
- A homemade online multiple choice quiz regarding
straight lines.
This is practice to help you visualize lines given their equations in slope-intercept form.
(You need to get straight with lines. Straight lines will be a big part of EACH exam and you should have no illusions about that.)
Here are some more, similar quizzes:
- A discussion about graphing factored polynomials.
- A site with some visually based quizzes, from the maths online gallery, recommended by a former student.
You might want to check the Web for Calculus stuff. There are tons, so it isn't easy to find something that suits you without digging. You could start at the
site below, but you'll probably need to look around awhile before
finding something you like. (Hey --- no heavy surfing until you've
done your homework.)
