I received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 1981 and joined the Air Force Band the same year. I was stationed in Georgia and the Philippines during my career in the Air Force. After serving 6 years in the military, I went back to school and received a B.S in Mathematics Education and my M.S. in Mathematics from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.
I passed the first actuary exam in 1991 and worked for General American Life Insurance Company until 1993.
I received my Ph.D. in Computational Analysis and Modeling from Louisiana Tech University in 2001 and started my career with Louisiana State University in Shreveport after graduation. My dissertation was in the area of statistics, called “Measuring Risk in Case-Control Studies”. Currently, my major research concentration is in the area of quality control.
While at LSUS, I helped construct a concentration in actuarial science. I have enjoyed teaching our students probability and statistics and have enjoyed watching them pass the actuary exams and move on to very successful careers. From 2005-2007, I served as chair of the department of mathematics.
