I
received a B.S. in Mathematics Education from Northwestern
State University of Louisiana in 1985 and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Louisiana Lafayette in 1993.
My dissertation was in topological groups. I have given many in-service
workshops and summer projects for practicing teachers.
I am currently on the Editorial Panel for
the NCTM publication, Mathematics Teacher . I am a member of NCTM as well as the Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics.
I
currently serve as the secretary for the Louisiana Mississippi Section
of the Mathematical Association of America .
I am active both in the section activities of the MAA as well as nationally. I
currently serve as a member of the Articulation and Placement committee as well
as the James R.C. Leitzel
Lecture committee. I recently served the MAA as a member of the Committee
on the Mathematics Education of Teachers (COMET) for six years. The last two
years of my service I was co-chair of this committee. I feel that my most
important role in the MAA is the work I do with Project NExT. I was one of
the original fellows and currently serve as one of the assistant co-directors.
My main role in working with Project NExT is to work with fellows interested in
mathematics education and the preparation of teachers. In this role, I manage a
list for fellows from all years with this interest.
