• Summer 2000: A three week program for grades 4-8 teachers to be held on the LSUS campus July 10 – July 28
  
• AY 2000-2001: Seven in-service days (not to conflict with classroom instruction)
  
• There will be 30 teachers in this workshop
  
• "Increasing Content Knowledge" is hands-on, concept based, constructivist, and designed to enhance mathematical knowledge
  
• Stipend: $60/day for 15 days during summer and for all in-service days
  
• Each participant will receive $200 worth of classroom supplies
  
• Modest travel funds are available for teachers from outside of the Shreveport-Bossier area (carpooling is encouraged)
  
• Curriculum will be strongly influenced by the DEEP program in mathematics, with an emphasis on number sense, measurement, and problem solving
  
  Selection Criteria Consideration
  
• Any Region VII elementary or middle school math teacher (4-8) is eligible. Applicants should expect to teach 4-8 grade math 2000-2001.
  
• No applicants who have been approved for sabbatical leave for all of part of the 2000-2001 academic year are eligible.
  
• Teams of applicants from the same school are encouraged to apply.
  
• Applicants who currently teach minority students and who are themselves of a minority ethnicity are encouraged to apply.
  
• Applicants who currently teach at a low achieving school are encouraged to apply.
  
• Applicants that are certified in Louisiana will be given preference.
