Who is the 1999 Caddo High School Teacher of the Year?

Robin Johnson, that's who!

Robin Johnson graduated from LSUS in 1991 with a B.S. in Mathematics. A lifelong resident of Shreveport, he has taught at several regional high schools. While doing this he was also able to find time to get a Masters Degree in Secondary Education (1996) at NLU. After living and teaching for a year (1996-1997) in the Valley R-VI School District in rural Missouri (where he was also Technology Director), he came to his senses and returned to Shreveport. Good for us! Robin is an entertaining and caring teacher. Captain Shreve is lucky to have him.

Robin has continued to be an active learner of mathematics, and is one of the few high school teachers we know of who have published papers in pure mathematics (see Coker, Gary D.; Gardner, Robert B.; Johnson, Robin, "Decompositions of the complete digraph and the complete graph which admit certain automorphisms," Congr. Numerantium 108(1995), pp 65-84).

His major interest is in further curriculum development for his Calculus class at Shreve. He is also interested in AutoLISP programming (a subset of AutoCAD) and MIDI musical synthesizers.

Our thanks go to the Caddo Association of Educators for a great choice for the award, and we thank all of the other talented teachers in our area for the tremendous contribution they make.

Congratulations, Robin!
